On February 19th—21st over 100 students from 19 universities descended on Sheffield for an intense weekend.
The training started with a bang on the Friday morning as we celebrated our patent pool success and ate ‘Patent Pool’ cake made specially by Ness and Vicky from Sheffield and looked back at the ups and downs of the last 18 months.
Over the course of the 2 and a half days the societies had the opportunity to update everyone else on their own society activities, attend workshops on media and communications, motivating volunteers, political lobbying and street campaigning, and there was time for society groups to plan their activities for the next 6 months and look at how they can collaborate with other groups. There were also entire groups planning sessions looking at where we want the campaign to go in to the future and our plans for the general election!
On Friday evening there was a slightly drunken and rowdy pub quiz—which had a distinct HIV theme. But the highlight of everyone’s weekend was the ceilidh (which is Scottish dancing for those of you who don’t know). The dance floor was packed for every dance, and all the males in the room were nabbed up quickly.
The weekend ended abruptly on Sunday morning, when with a few headaches, we woke up to find 5inches of fresh snow all over Sheffield, and worries that we would all be stuck. However everyone got home safely, although everyone legs ached badly for the next 2 days!
