Term has already kicked off with a bang up here in Glasgow and we had a really successful freshers’ fair. We had lots of red balloons, condoms and ribbons which attracted the attention of the freshers and non freshers. Our spirits were high and not just due to the unusual amounts of sunshine that week!

We made little Scottish themed student stop aids business cards in the weeks leading up to our freshers’ fayre, and they appear to have been a hit as they disappeared along with all the free condoms.
As well as meeting lots of new and enthusiastic members we managed to make links with lots of like minded societies such as: People and Planet, Sexpression, Guava (the new art group) who are going to bring their artistic talents to our events.
First of which is going to be a day of workshops about how to get involved with campaigning and student activism, ending with an evening of dancing. The idea of this is to let people know that campaigning is multifaceted and not all about marching and waving banners and to demystify the facts about lobbying your MP and going to Parliament. Hopefully this will also spread the Stop AIDS word around campus in the run up to the Speaker Tour and World AIDS Day.
We will make sure that the finalé of the Speaker Tour ends in true Glasgow style!!!
Please remember to let me know about how your freshers’ event goes. Send me some pictures and I will include them in next months newsletter; jane.broomfield@spw.org.
