The Student Stop AIDS Campaign together with the APPG on AIDS are hosting the Unite to Fight AIDS Speaker Tour event in Committee Room 12, the Palace of Westminster, on Tuesday the 21st of October at 5pm.
The event should prove to be extremely powerful. We are bringing four young people from Zambia, Uganda, Ireland and the USA to talk about their experiences of how HIV and AIDS have affected them and their communities.
One of the speakers, Memory from Zambia contracted HIV when she was raped as a young girl. After learning about her status when she read it scrawled on the wall of her orphanage she has gone on to become a powerful voice for the rights of people living with HIV; speaking in front of Bill Clinton and at the UN. She will be joined by Lolisa, a young AIDS activist from the US who is also living with HIV and who has led marches in Alabama to demand the rights of a young boy living with HIV to use the local swimming pool. Aloysious has worked as a volunteer peer educator in Uganda building up young people’s knowledge and understanding of the virus. Whilst Kevin is a young man from Ireland who, having contracted HIV, is determined to help others to protect themselves.
