On World AIDS Day: the group organised a massive ‘wear red’ run to raise awareness about the campaign to all students. Also on 1st December, 2 members of the group joined with the local Oxfam group to meet Hilary Benn. They had 20 minutes to talk to him specifically about the access to medicines side of the campaign where they grilled him on supporting the use of the TRIPS flexibilities; how the government was going to ensure 2010 became a reality; and the TRIPS plus agenda of certain FTAs. They are going to follow up this meeting by sending a letter to Hilary Benn reiterating their message and requesting more information on certain points.
In the month of November the Leeds Stop AIDS Society sent 10 action cards every day to 2 MPs in Leeds. They also marked the anniversary of the Doha Declaration by dressing up in pill costumes they had made and running around their campus telling people about the campaign and the significance of that day.
During the week leading up to World AIDS Day there was a stall in the Students Union selling red ribbons and badges and getting people to sign action cards. Condoms and information about Stop AIDS were also distributed in 3 different bars throughout this week.
A battle of the bands night was held on Monday 27th to raise money for the Stop AIDS Society. On Monday 4th they held their final World AIDS Day events. They organised a lecture from Senior International Public Health Professor John Walley on AIDS in Uganda and followed this by holding a workshop on AIDS and TRIPS regulations.
