Student Stop AIDS Speaker Tour is on the road from 9th – 20th October
The 4th annual Unite to Fight AIDS Speaker Tour starts this Monday! This year the tour will bring 4 dynamic young AIDS activists from 3 different continents to speak at 17 Universities throughout the UK. See here for a list of venues and more information on the speakers.
The Speaker Tour visits Parliament 17th October
This year as well as visiting 17 universities we’ve got a date in parliament. We want as many people to be there as possible. If you haven’t done so already RSVP to Aviva Bresky to reserve your place now. Visit our website for more information and to download an invite from the Speaker Tour route page.
Resources available
The Student Stop AIDS Societies website has been revamped and is up and running. If you’re reading this online, then you’re already here! Make sure you bookmark it for the future. The latest campaign briefing is there to download, along with information on the Speaker Tour and the latest HIV and AIDS news from around the world. There’s also a secure societies login area, so you can all chat to each other in private, share ideas and support each others activities. Email katy.athersuch@spw.org for more information.
E-action
The Stop AIDS Campaign has set up a mass e-action on their website. Visit the site today and send an email to Hilary Benn to demand that the UK government act now to ensure affordable, generic medicines are available for all who need them. More than 75% of all adults, and 90% of children, who urgently need treatment are still not receiving it. Let the government know you’re still watching:

Campaign Update
Well done to everyone who took part in the mass letter writing campaign to Abbott and Gilead Sciences last term. Abbott and Gilead received over 3,500 letters from Student Stop AIDS Societies in the UK and it appears they have been listening! Thanks to the hard work of MSF, SGAC in the USA and you guys, New Kaletra is now available in Nigeria, and Abbott have announced plans to lower the cost of Kaletra in 45 low and middle income countries. Click here to read more, and find out what happened when Fionnuala met HIV+ Nigerian Activist Ibrahim Umoru at the IAC in Toronto this August.
